What we collect, and why

Only what an order needs, plus what the law needs us to keep afterwards.

• To ship you a tool: your name, shipping address, billing address, email address and phone number. The phone number is for the carrier, who sometimes needs it to deliver.
• To let you sign in: your email address, and either a password we store hashed, or the fact that you signed in with Google. We never see your Google password.
• To keep you signed in: a session cookie, and the IP address the session was created from.
• To tell you where your parcel is: the carrier tracking number for your shipment, including warranty replacements.
• To honour the warranty: your claim, what failed, and what we sent you.
• To email you: your email address and which messages we have sent, so we do not send the same one twice.
• To see which tools people look at: Google Analytics, which sets a cookie and tells Google the pages you viewed, roughly where you are, and what device you used. It never sees your name, your address, or what you bought. We use it to find out which sizes people search for and never find.

Payment cards

We never receive your card number. Card payments are handled by Stripe, who take the card details directly and tell us only whether the payment succeeded. There is nowhere in our database that a card number could go, which we say because we checked rather than because it sounded good.

If you bought from us on eBay

eBay gives us the name, address and order details needed to ship your item, and we tell eBay when it shipped and its tracking number. eBay's own privacy policy governs what they do with your information, including anything you gave them that they did not pass to us.

Who else sees your information

• Shipping carriers — your name, address and phone, because that is what a parcel is addressed with.
• Stripe — to take payment and to handle refunds and disputes.
• eBay — only for orders you placed there.
• Our email provider — to deliver the messages we send you.
• Google Analytics — which pages were viewed, and nothing that says who you are. It runs on the shop, not inside your account: it does not see your order history, your claims, or your address.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. Nobody gets your details in order to market to you.

How long we keep it

Order and payment records are kept as long as tax and accounting law requires, which is years rather than months — we cannot delete an invoice and still have books that balance. Everything that is not part of that financial record can be deleted on request, and a deletion request tells you what was removed.

Your rights, and the actual doors

If you live in California, the CCPA gives you the right to know what we hold, to get a copy, to have it deleted, and not to be treated worse for asking. We extend the same to everyone, because running two standards would mean deciding who deserves which.

• A copy of your data — we export it and send you a download.
• Deletion — we remove what we are not legally required to keep, and tell you what was removed and what had to stay.
• Correction — if an address or name is wrong, we will fix it.

Children

This is a tool shop for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Changes

If we change what we collect or who we share it with, we change this page and the date at the top. We will not quietly start doing something this page says we do not do.
